Breast Implant Revision

A breast implant revision can improve the look of your chest as it replaces old breast implants with new ones. Over time, implants can change in shape or size. The overlying tissue can also vary, which can impact the look of your implants. This procedure can be done in conjunction with a breast lift or reduction. The goal is to make your breasts look better by doing one or some of the following: reshaping the implant pockets, repositioning the implants in your chest, or changing the size shape of the implant. If you are unhappy with your current implants, this procedure may be right for you.

Candidates for the Procedure

There are several reasons why you may want to get a revision. Having confidence in your appearance is essential for your self-esteem. Below are some of the common reasons our patients contact us for a breast implant revision.

  • You may have issues with your current implants, including a leak or rupture.
  • Have problems with the area around your implant, including hardening or thickening, which can cause pain and distort the implant.
  • If you experience bottoming out, lateralization, or medialization of the implants.
  • Movement can occur when lying flat or with an activity if the pocket is overly large, and the implant has too much room to move around.
  • When the implant is placed under the muscle, the implant can become displaced when the muscle contracts.
  • You may feel that your implants are too boxy, square, or even too lateral.
  • If the implants you already have are too big or small, or you had an inadequate prior reduction.
  • Visible rippling of the implants can occur and is most common in thinner individuals.

Breast Revision Consultation

If you have ever considered the procedure, scheduling a consultation is the next step to get the information to decide if its right for you. It’s simple and easy to schedule a consultation at Linville Plastic Surgery. At the consultation, the doctor will need information about your medical history, including any previous surgeries. Breast Revision Recovery

Because this is an outpatient procedure, you will likely go home the same day. You’ll need to attend all of your follow up appointments with Dr. Linville as this will help ensure you are healing correctly.
Each breast revision surgery is different for each person, which means recovery will also be different.

For the first two weeks, you will want to focus on resting. Get help if you can with any daily tasks that need to be done around your home. It would help if you did not exercise or lift anything for at least two weeks after surgery. After two weeks, and with the doctor’s approval, you can get back into some light exercise and moderate lifting. As long as everything is healing as expected, you should be completely back to normal within six weeks. At that point, you can begin more intense exercise and get back to your full daily routine.

Breast Implant Revision Results

The results of your procedure will not be apparent immediately as you will have some bruising and swelling for the first few weeks to months. Your chest should fully settle within six weeks when the bruising and swelling goes down. In some cases, it can take six months to heal and see the results fully. However, following the doctor’s instructions, attending your follow up appointments, and focusing on healing can help.
