Are You a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

There are a number of reasons why you may want a fuller chest. Self-confidence and happiness with the way you look are important for your self-esteem. Below are some of the common reasons our patients contact us for an augmentation.

Natural Size: Some women are born with naturally small breasts. An enlargement can help increase the size and improve the shape of your breasts.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Both can have a significant impact on a woman’s body. If your chest has changed after pregnancy or breastfeeding, an augmentation can help you feel like you did pre-baby.

Sagging: Some people have a naturally saggy chest. Gravity can also take a toll on a woman’s breasts. Augmentation can be combined with a breast lift. A lift can make it looker fuller and perky.

Round Silicone Gel Implants

Round Silicone Gel Implants are the most popular type of implant among patients. The benefit of this implant is that the silicone is more cohesive and less prone to leaking.

Silicone Implants

The look and feel of silicon implant are the most natural. There are varying degrees of firmness available. Also, the silicone is encased in a thick, soft shell that protects against any rupturing. These are safe and FDA-approved if you are over 21.

Saline Implants

Saline implants are an excellent option for women who prefer an axillary incision (an incision near your armpit). This is also an option for women who are between 18 and 21 years old.

Gummy Bear Implants

Gummy Bear Implants are made of cohesive silicone gel and look like a round-shaped implant. They can help with the volume on the upper breast area. Aging can reduce the volume in the top area of your breasts, so these can shape them up and provide cleavage.

Teardrop Breast Implants

Teardrop Implants are great for those who want natural-looking breasts. They are firm and can hold their shape, but the fullness is at the bottom of the implant versus the top. The design is great for those who want to improve the look of their breasts but still keep them looking more natural.

Breast Augmentation Procedure Overview

Before the procedure, you will need to attend your preoperative visit. This will help prepare you for how to get ready for surgery, what will happen during surgery, and how to prepare for your recovery in advance. The procedure itself takes about one to two hours, and Dr. Linville is with you every step of the way. He is very focused on your aesthetic outcomes but also wants you to feel comfortable.

The procedure itself differs based on your actual incision. Between your consultation and preoperative visit, this will be discussed and decided upon. Dr. Linville will base the decision on several factors. First, patient safety is the number one priority. Second, he wants to know and consider your preference. Lastly, he wants to provide you with the best incision for the type of implant you are getting. He has excellent patient outcomes, and his advice can be trusted due to his credibility and success.

Types of Incisions

Below you will find the types of incisions that are used during this procedure.

Inframammary (IMF) Incisions

An inframmary incision is small (roughly 4cm) in your lower breast crease. This is the most common incision and is very safe. It also allows scarring to be hidden under your natural crease until it fades. This method is also helpful as it allows the doctor to control the breast pocket better and permit subtle modifications in the future if necessary.

Periareolar Incisions

A periareolar incision is also small and is placed between the border of your areola and the natural skin around your nipple. This is the second most common incision and is usually coupled with an areola reduction. The scarring heals well, as it is strategically placed on the border of the two skin variations.

Axillary Incisions

An axillary incision is located near your armpit and is the least common. The doctor has less control over the breast pocket with this incision, so the method is used less often. The benefit of this incision is that there is no scarring on your actual breast.

Breast Enlargement Recovery

As an outpatient procedure, you will likely go home the same day. You’ll need to attend all of your follow-up appointments with Dr. Linville as this will help ensure you are healing correctly.

For the first two weeks, you will want to focus on resting. Get help if you can with any daily tasks that need to be done. It would help if you did not exercise or lift anything for at least two weeks after surgery. After two weeks, and with the doctor’s approval, you can get back into some light exercise and moderate lifting. As long as everything is healing as expected, you should be completely back to normal within six weeks. At that point, you can begin more intense exercising and get back to your full daily routine.

Breast Augmentation FAQ

Breast implants don’t have an “expiration date” once implanted, but implants don’t prevent aging skin and bodies. Many patients choose to replace them after 10-20 years or have a breast lift at that point. Of course, a patient should have regular breast exams to make sure no complications develop.

A breast augmentation starts at about $6800 and can go up from there. The price can vary depending on:

  • If a patient chooses more cohesive implants
  • If a patient also wants fat grafting
  • Additional procedure occurs at the same time
