Is Liposuction Right for Me?

One of the advantages of liposuction is how flexible a procedure it is. If you are tired of the excess weight around your waist or your problem areas, liposuction is a great option. Still, there are a few factors that determine if liposuction could benefit you. During your consultation, Dr. Linville will cover these with you to find a plan that fits you best.

Below are some signs that liposuction is right for you.

  • Health: Ideal candidates should be in good health overall. The reason is so that you can heal better and have better results. We prefer that you do not smoke as that can also impact the healing process.
  • Weight: Ideal candidates should be within close range (thirty percent) of their ideal weight.
  • Skin: Candidates should have firm, elastic skin with right muscle tone.

Liposuction Overview

As a highly versatile procedure, liposuction can target most areas of the body. These include:

  • Back
  • Chest
  • Cheeks
  • Neck
  • Upper arms
  • Hips
  • Thighs

These areas all tend to have problems with extra fat deposits or bulges. If you have been working hard through diet and exercise to tone your body and want to get rid of the final excess fat, this procedure may be right for you.

Before the procedure, you will need to attend your preoperative visit. This will help prepare you on several factors, including:

  • How to get ready for surgery
  • What will happen during surgery
  • How to prepare for your recovery in advance

While liposuction removes the fat in your body, lipo body contouring is a finishing touch that can enhance the look of your body.

Different Types of Liposuction

Part of what makes liposuction so effective is that it can take several forms. The one that suits you will depend on your goals. Each type has its unique qualities. Below you will find the types of liposuction that Dr. Linville offers and their characteristics.

High-Definition Body Etching

The latest evolution in lipo techniques goes beyond simple contouring. It can:
Create the appearance of abdominal wall muscles
Enhance definition in the arms or legs
Refine your look completely

VASER Liposuction

VASER Lipo and Ultrasound lipo help with etching or contouring. This helps prevent sagging or drooping due to the heat aspect of lipo. The technique causes the underlying tissue to contract and the overlying skin to shrink.

Excision-Site Lipo

Excision-Site Lipo helps the tissues match up when the incisions are closed. It can also help preserve sensory nerves during the process.

Superficial Lipo

Traditional liposuction focuses on the deeper layers of fat. Superficial lipo instead focuses on the surface layers of fat for precise contouring. It can increase your results and perfectly contour the targeted area.

Liposuction Recovery and Downtime

As an outpatient procedure, you can return home the same day. There will be follow up appointments with Dr. Linville to ensure you are healing correctly.

For the first few weeks, you will want to focus on resting. It is essential to give your body time to heal, providing better results. The first few days will be the most important. We recommend having someone available to help you with daily tasks for the first couple weeks.

You can expect some discomfort and swelling after the procedure. However, these can be managed with prescribed medication. However, if the discomfort begins to worry you, contact our office.

It would be best if you did not exercise or lift anything for at least two weeks after surgery. After two weeks and with the doctor’s approval, you can begin some light exercise and lifting. Below you will find some tips for how to promote healing during your recovery period.

Tips for Recovery

  • Bandages and Garments: Due to the swelling post-procedure, you’ll need to wear a compression garment and elastic bandages. These will help with swelling and your overall recovery.
  • Take Your Time Slowly: You will want to get right back to work or your regular daily routine. But, the longer you wait, the better your results will be. Focus on easing back in slowly. And give yourself the necessary time to heal is vital for your overall health.
  • Wound Care: It’s important to take good care of your wounds. Follow the post-operation instructions Dr. Linville gives you. Don’t forget, you can call our office if you have any questions. Prescribed
  • Medications: Managing any pain or swelling post-surgery is a big part of recovery. Some amount of pain is reasonable for the first few days, so taking your medication will ensure that you can relax as your body heals. We want the process to be as comfortable as possible.
